ABOUT
Rough Supply Company was built out of a gap in the market.
There is no reliable, designated source for facet rough in Canada. Most material has to be sourced overseas, often without knowing who you are buying from or whether the stones will match what was advertised. I have experienced that firsthand.
At the same time, importing smaller quantities can mean higher shipping costs and duties, making it harder for buyers to access good material at a reasonable price. By bringing in rough in larger parcels and handling the import side directly, those costs can be reduced for buyers in Canada and the United States.
This started alongside my own work in faceting. I was already sourcing rough for cutting, and it made sense to assess that material honestly and offer it with clear, accurate descriptions.
The focus is on transparency and selection. Stones are evaluated for what they are; some for cutting potential, some for their color or structure, and some simply as natural material. Not everything is exceptional, and not everything is meant to be. Both higher-end and more common material have a place.
There is a strong interest in working closer to the source over time. Building relationships closer to the mines allows for a better understanding of the material and the ability to bring stronger rough directly to North America.
What draws me to this work is the material itself. Rough gemstones are unique, unprocessed, and shaped entirely by natural conditions. The process of selecting them, looking for color, structure, and potential, is where most of the value is created.
Rough Supply Company is built for lapidarists, collectors, and anyone interested in working with natural material, with a focus on supporting cutters at all levels.
Everything is presented as clearly and honestly as possible, with minimal interpretation and no unnecessary framing.
